Tax Day (The Most Honesty You’ll Do All Year)

It’s Tax Day. And yes, the deadline is today. I’m not going to pretend that’s not a little stressful, especially if you’ve been doing the thing where you were going to handle it last week but then didn’t.

Here’s what I actually appreciate about Tax Day, buried under all the receipts and the mild panic: it forces honesty. Once a year, you have to account for where the money actually went. Not where you thought it went. Not where you meant for it to go. Where it actually, honestly went.

That reckoning is uncomfortable. It’s also kind of clarifying. There’s something in the financial picture that tells you things about your priorities, your habits, your actual life versus the life you tell yourself you’re living.

You can do a version of this for other things too. Not just money. Time. Energy. Attention. Where did it actually go this year? Not in judgment — just in honesty. The warm water reset exists for a reason. Use it today if you need it.

Honesty, even when it’s uncomfortable, is almost always clarifying.

What’s one thing about your year so far that you’d like to be more intentional about going forward?
