3.14 Thoughts on the Infinite Middle

Happy Pi Day. March 14th. 3.14. The day mathematicians get excited and the rest of us think about pie, which is honestly the correct response.

Here’s what I love about pi: it never ends. It just keeps going. No pattern, no resolution, no satisfying arrival at a clean number. Just ongoing. Indefinitely. With no apparent concern about that fact.

Life is a little like that. We keep waiting for the part where things settle down, where things get resolved, where we finally arrive at the answer. But the middle just keeps going. New chapters, new questions, new unknowns following closely behind the ones you just figured out.

What if that’s not a problem? What if ongoing is just what it looks like from the inside? Today — celebrate something circular. Call the friend you always come back to. Eat an actual piece of pie. Find something to appreciate in the fact that this just keeps going.

The infinite middle is where your life lives. Might as well get comfortable.
