Wednesday and the Art of the Smaller Ask

Image for: Wednesday and the Art of the Smaller Ask

By Wednesday, the original shape of the week has usually been revised a few times. Things that seemed manageable on Monday have gotten complicated. The list has grown in directions you didn’t expect. And if you’re not careful, Wednesday becomes the day where you respond to all of that by asking more of yourself than is actually available.

Here’s the practice I want to offer today: the smaller ask.

Instead of finishing the project, what’s the next step? Instead of fixing the relationship, what’s one small, genuine gesture? Instead of overhauling the habit, what’s the version of it you can actually do today, given what today is?

The smaller ask isn’t giving up. It’s precision. It’s knowing the difference between what’s possible and what’s ideal and choosing the possible, which is the only thing that actually happens.

What’s the smaller ask your Wednesday actually needs?

The smaller ask isn’t giving up. It’s choosing the possible, which is the only thing that actually happens.

Where in your week right now could you make a smaller, more precise ask of yourself?
