A Good Enough Friday

Image for: A Good Enough Friday

Let me tell you about a week I had a few years ago. Nothing went wrong. Nothing went spectacularly right. I met my commitments. I was reasonably kind. I didn’t accomplish anything I’d want to put in a letter, but I also didn’t drop any of the things I was carrying.

At the end of that Friday, I felt vaguely dissatisfied, like I should have done more or been more or felt more. Then I stopped and actually looked at what I’d done, and I realized: that was a really solid week. The ordinary maintenance of a life, executed with some care. Everything that was supposed to hold, held.

That’s worth something. More than I was giving it credit for. Today, before you go into the weekend, look at what held. What stayed intact. What commitments you kept that nobody applauded. That’s the week. And it’s enough.

Look at what held. That’s the week — and it’s enough.

What’s one thing from this week that held together quietly, without any fanfare?
