Happy Fourth of July
Happy Fourth of July. Independence Day, landing on a Saturday this year, which feels like a small gift from the calendar — a real weekend holiday, no Monday-back-to-work shadow hanging over it.
However you feel about days like this — and people feel a lot of different ways, all of them valid — there’s something I keep coming back to. The Fourth, at its best, is about people gathering. The cookout. The lawn chairs. The neighbors you only really see in summer. The shared experience of looking up at the same sky when the fireworks start.
That gathering is the porch light philosophy at full volume. A whole community, leaving the light on for each other for one warm night. Sharing food. Making room at the table. Being, briefly, in it together.
Today, wherever you are: be present for the people you’re with. Eat the good food. Look up when the sky lights up. Let yourself be part of something shared.
The gathering is the point. Be present for the people you’re with.
Who are you spending today with — and what makes that time together good?
