The Midpoint Wind

Wednesday. Middle of the week, middle of July. My grandfather wound his clock on Wednesdays because that’s when the spring runs down — enough momentum spent to need a little tending, enough week left to be worth winding back up.

You’re at that point now. Whatever energy you started the week with has been spent down a little. This is the moment to wind the clock. Not to push harder — to tend. A real lunch instead of a sad desk one. A walk in the morning before the heat sets in. Five minutes of warm water over your hands. The three questions: How am I doing? What do I need? What can I set down?

The second half of the week runs better when you stop to wind the clock in the middle. Give yourself that today.

The middle of the week is when the spring runs down. Wind the clock — don’t just push harder.

What’s one small way you can tend to yourself in the middle of this week?
