Back to the Ordinary

Kris Evergreen here. First Monday after the holiday, and we’re easing back into the ordinary rhythm of things. After a long weekend, Monday can feel a little like cold water. The break was good, the break is over, and here’s the week again.

Here’s the reframe I’d offer: you don’t have to slam back into full speed. The ordinary days — the Mondays, the regular weeks, the unremarkable routines — these aren’t the lesser parts of life that you tolerate between the holidays. They’re most of your life. And learning to be okay in them, even to find quiet good in them, is one of the most useful skills there is.

Start small today. The ten percent rule exists for exactly this kind of Monday. Don’t try to conquer the week. Just begin it. One thing. Then the next.

The ordinary days aren’t what you tolerate between the holidays. They’re most of your life.

What’s one small thing that could make this ordinary Monday a little better?
