Closing the First Week of August

Image for: Closing the First Week of August

Friday. The first full week of August comes to a close, and with it, a chance to practice one of my favorite skills: ending well.

Ending well isn’t dramatic. It’s a handful of small moves. Finishing the one thing that genuinely needs finishing — not everything, just the one. Writing a short note to Monday-you about where things stand, so future-you doesn’t have to reconstruct it from scratch. Doing the five-minute tidy so the space you return to is a space that welcomes you. And then — this is the important part — actually stopping.

The stopping is a skill. The week will happily continue extracting from you all weekend if you let it. Don’t let it. Draw the line. The work had five days; the weekend gets two, and they’re yours.

Close it gently, and go enjoy an August weekend.

What’s your ritual for actually stopping at the end of a week?
