World Teachers’ Day
Kris Evergreen here. Monday — and it’s World Teachers’ Day, a good assignment for the start of a week.
I talked about teachers back in May, and the truth I landed on then hasn’t changed: the best ones never knew the impact they were having while they were having it. They said the thing on a Tuesday afternoon, and it landed twenty years later in someone’s hardest moment. That’s the longest game there is.
But here’s the Monday angle. Teaching isn’t only what happens in classrooms. Every one of us is teaching, constantly, whether we mean to or not — the coworker watching how you handle a setback, the kid watching how you talk to the cashier, the friend noticing how you treat yourself when you fall short. We’re all somebody’s curriculum.
So today: thank a teacher if you can. And then be a little more aware of what you’re teaching — not with your words, with your Monday.
We’re all somebody’s curriculum. Be aware of what you’re teaching — not with your words, with your Monday.
Who’s a teacher — formal or otherwise — whose lesson you’re still carrying?
