The Consistency Gap
Here’s the gap I see most often between people who build the things they want to build and people who don’t: it’s not talent, and it’s not even effort. It’s the willingness to be boring about something for long enough.
Boring is the secret ingredient. The writer who sits down every day, not because it’s inspired, but because that’s when they write. The runner who goes out on Tuesday morning not because they feel like it but because Tuesday is running day. The friend who calls every Sunday not because something prompted it but because that’s just who they are.
The results these people get look impressive from the outside. But the actual mechanism is just relentless, unglamorous consistency. Showing up on Tuesday. Especially this Tuesday. Especially when it doesn’t feel exciting.
Be boring today. In the best possible way.
Boring is the secret ingredient. Be willing to be consistent for long enough.
What’s one thing in your life that deserves more boring, reliable consistency than you’ve been giving it?
