The Long Weekend Is Coming
Memorial Day weekend starts in three days. Which means this Friday is carrying some extra Friday energy — the kind that comes when people know a long break is close and the whole mood of the week shifts slightly toward anticipation.
I want to say something about anticipation, because I think we often burn it up too fast. We spend the whole week looking forward to the weekend so hard that when it arrives we’re almost disappointed it isn’t more. The anticipation ate all the joy before the thing could deliver it.
Today: let the anticipation be pleasant without letting it be consuming. Notice you’re looking forward to something. Let that be a small, warm thing in the background of your Friday. Then be here, where you actually are, doing what actually needs doing today.
The weekend will be there. Let today be today first.
Let anticipation be pleasant without letting it be consuming. Be here first.
What are you most looking forward to about the long weekend ahead?
