Welcome to August
August 1st. A Saturday, which is a generous way for a month to begin — no obligations, no meetings, just a warm weekend morning and a fresh calendar page.
August is summer’s second act. The heat is still here, the light is still long, but something in the air has shifted slightly. The season knows where it’s headed now. There’s a sweetness to August that July doesn’t quite have — the sweetness of something you know won’t last forever, which makes you hold it a little more carefully.
My invitation for the first day of the month: start it slow. It’s Saturday. There’s nowhere to rush to. Take the long morning. Notice what late summer feels like — the specific quality of the light, the sound of the neighborhood, the way the day warms up gradually.
Thirty-one days of August ahead. Let’s spend them well.
August has the sweetness of something you know won’t last forever. Hold it carefully.
What do you want August to hold for you?
