The Quiet Ones
Tuesday. And today I want to say a word for the quiet ones — the people whose consistency is so complete that it’s become invisible.
Every workplace, every family, every friend group has them. The person who always does what they said. Who shows up on time so reliably that nobody notices anymore. Who handles their part without drama, without reminders, without needing credit. The ones the whole operation quietly runs on.
Here’s the strange economics of reliability: the better you are at it, the less visible it becomes. The dependable person gets taken for granted precisely because they can be depended on. Their steadiness becomes the background everyone else performs against.
Two things today. First: if you are that person somewhere, know that it matters, even unthanked. Especially unthanked. Second: find one of your quiet ones and actually thank them. Out loud. Specifically. Watch what it does.
The better you are at reliability, the less visible it becomes. Thank your quiet ones out loud.
Who’s the quietly reliable person in your life who deserves to hear it today?
