The Last Friday of Summer’s Fullness

Friday. The last one of August’s full weeks. And I want to close it with a small practice I’ve mentioned before, extended for the season: the letting go.

Fridays are for setting down the week. Today, set down a little more. The summer plans that didn’t happen — set them down. The version of these months you imagined back in June — set it down. The lost mittens of the season, the things that slipped away or fell through or just never came together — let them go where lost mittens go.

What you keep is what actually happened: the real summer, with its real moments, the ones nobody planned and everybody remembers. That’s the keeper pile. It’s bigger than you think.

Then step into the weekend light. There’s still gold out there. The season has a little more to give, and so do these last warm Fridays.

Set down the summer you planned. Keep the one that actually happened. It’s bigger than you think.

What’s a real, unplanned moment from this summer that’s going in your keeper pile?
