The Sunday of Small Repairs
Sunday. And today I want to suggest a gentler cousin of the productive weekend: the Sunday of Small Repairs.
Not projects. Repairs. The button that’s been loose. The picture that’s been crooked. The squeaky hinge, the burned-out bulb, the phone contact that still has the wrong number, the app clutter, the one drawer. Each repair takes five minutes or less. Each one is a tiny discord you’ve been living with — so small you stopped noticing it, except some part of you never stopped noticing it.
Fix three or four of them today and something surprising happens: the whole environment exhales. It’s the domestic version of the Hidden Win Inventory — all these little frictions, resolved, add up to a smoother-running life out of all proportion to the effort spent.
And it counts as puttering, so the thinking time comes free. Small repairs, big exhale. That’s the whole practice.
Each small repair is a tiny discord you stopped noticing — except some part of you never stopped. Fix three. Feel the exhale.
What’s one small broken thing you could repair in the next five minutes?
