The Thermostat Tuesday
Tuesday. And here’s a small consistency lesson from an unlikely teacher: the thermostat.
Right about now, the great household negotiation begins — the first cold morning when someone reaches for the heat and someone else says not yet, put on a sweater. But that’s not the lesson. The lesson is in how a thermostat actually works. It doesn’t blast heat once and quit. It checks the temperature, adjusts a little, checks again, adjusts again. Small corrections, constantly, forever. That’s the entire mechanism, and it’s why the house stays warm.
Most of us try to run our lives like a furnace — one big blast of effort, then nothing until we’re freezing again. The thermostat model is quieter and it actually works: check in, adjust slightly, check again. The Tuesday practice in a single appliance.
What needs a small adjustment today? Not an overhaul. A degree or two. Then check back tomorrow.
Don’t run your life like a furnace. Run it like a thermostat — small corrections, constantly.
What’s one thing in your life that needs a degree or two of adjustment, not an overhaul?
