The Warm Water Wednesday
Wednesday. Midweek, mid-fall, and the mornings are properly cold now — which makes this the ideal season for a practice I’ve talked about since the very beginning: the Warm Water Reset.
Here’s the whole thing. When the middle of the week presses in — the stress, the fatigue, the sense of being stretched — go to the sink. Run the water warm, not hot. Hold your hands under it for a minute. That’s it.
It works because your body is older than your schedule. Cold hands, to the nervous system, mean exposure and danger. Warm hands mean shelter and safety. You can’t argue yourself calm, but you can warm your hands and let the body do the arguing for you. In October, when your hands are actually cold half the day, the reset lands harder than it does in July.
Three questions today, as always — how am I, what do I need, what can I set down. But do them with warm hands. It changes the answers.
You can’t argue yourself calm. But you can warm your hands and let the body do the arguing.
When’s the last time you gave yourself a full minute of warm water and nothing else?
