Holding It Lightly
Today is Palm Sunday for those who observe it — the start of Holy Week, a time that begins with celebration and asks you, over the days that follow, to reckon with things not going the way you expected.
Whatever your tradition, there’s something in the imagery worth sitting with today: the idea of holding things lightly. Not clinging too hard to what you expect. Not gripping so tight to the plan that you miss what’s actually happening.
Sundays can feel like gripping. We try to hold on to the weekend, squeeze out every last drop before Monday arrives. And that grip is exactly what makes Sunday anxious instead of restful.
What if you held today a little more loosely? Let it be what it is, rather than what you’re hoping it’ll be or dreading it’ll become. A lighter grip changes the whole feeling of a day.
Hold this day lightly. It’s better that way.
What’s something you’ve been gripping too tightly that might feel better if you loosened your hold a little?
