After the Peak
Yesterday was the longest day of the year. Which means today the days start getting shorter. Not noticeably — we’re talking a minute or two — but it’s happening. The solstice has passed and summer is now, technically, descending toward fall.
I don’t say that to be gloomy. I say it because I think there’s something useful in knowing where you are in a cycle. We passed the peak. The fullness of summer is right now, and it will be right now for another two months. But the turning has happened.
Monday is a good day to think about what you’re in the middle of. Not anxiously. With the calm awareness of someone who knows the shape of the thing they’re in. Summer is here. You’re in it. Use it. And know that peak moments are made more precious, not less, by the fact that they turn.
