The Golden Hour Month
Saturday. And I want to talk about August light, because it’s doing something special right now.
Photographers call the hour before sunset the golden hour — when the light goes low and warm and everything it touches looks like a memory being made. August is the golden hour of the whole year. The light has started arriving at an angle. The evenings glow amber. Everything looks slightly more beautiful than it did in the flat brightness of June, precisely because the light is starting to leave.
There’s a life lesson buried in there, but I’ll leave it mostly buried. Today, just go be in the light. Take the evening walk. Sit outside while dinner cooks. Watch how it lands on the trees around seven o’clock.
The golden hour doesn’t last. That’s the whole reason it’s golden.

Where’s your favorite place to catch the evening light this time of year?
