The Middle Day
Sunday. The middle day of the long weekend — and as I said back in May, the middle day is the best one. Yesterday you were still arriving. Tomorrow you’ll start thinking about reentry. Today, you’re just here.
Nothing is pulling at you from either side. Monday is still a full day away, and it’s a holiday anyway. This is as unclaimed as time gets for most of us, and unclaimed time deserves to be treated like the rarity it is.
So no assignments today. No Simple Mission, even. Just an observation: this is what enough feels like. A day with margin on both sides. If you can notice it — really notice it, the way you’d notice good weather or good company — you’ll have gotten the whole point of a long weekend.
Be in the middle of it. That’s the entire practice today.
This is what enough feels like: a day with margin on both sides. Notice it.
What does a day with real margin feel like for you — and when did you last have one?
