The Middle Day, October Edition
Sunday. The middle day of the long weekend, and if you’ve been reading along, you know how I feel about middle days: they’re the best ones. Yesterday you were arriving. Tomorrow you’ll be easing toward reentry. Today, you’re just here.
And October makes a beautiful backdrop for just being here. The light this weekend is that low, honeyed kind that only exists in mid-fall. The leaves are peaking. The air is cool enough for the sweater and warm enough for the porch. If you wanted to design a perfect day for nothing in particular, this is roughly what you’d draw.
No Simple Mission today. No repairs, no puttering assignments. Just this: notice you have margin on both sides. That’s rare. That’s what enough feels like. Sit in it.

What does an ideal do-nothing October day look like for you?
