The Cup and What Goes In It
You can’t pour from an empty cup. I know you’ve heard that. It’s become a bit of a slogan, maybe overused. But the reason it keeps getting said is that most of us are still not doing it.
Here’s the question for this Sunday: what fills your cup? Not what should fill it. Not what used to fill it. Right now, in this season of your life — what actually restores you?
For some people it’s solitude. For some it’s people. For some it’s movement, or creativity, or the specific pleasure of finishing something. For some — and I say this without judgment — it’s an afternoon nap and something good on in the background and absolutely no obligations for three hours.
Whatever it is: build it into this week. Not as a reward. As maintenance. As the basic operating requirement of a person who wants to show up well for the things and people that matter.
Fill the cup first. Everything pours better from a full one.
Fill the cup first. Not as a reward — as maintenance.
What’s one thing that genuinely fills your cup that you haven’t made time for lately?
