May, You Were Something

Image for: May, You Were Something

Last day of May. And it’s Sunday, which gives this particular month-ending a different quality — quieter, less like a closing and more like a settling.

May was a full month. It held gratitude and grief and long weekends and short weeks and blooming things and the gradual, undeniable arrival of summer. It held Mental Health Awareness Month, which I hope gave you at least one moment of genuine honesty with yourself. It held teachers you didn’t thank and helpers you maybe didn’t notice and a long weekend that hopefully gave you something real to carry forward.

Tomorrow is June 1st. A Monday. A new month. Your thirty-first Monday of the year.

But tonight is still May, and May deserves a proper close. Take a breath. Let the month be complete. Thank it for what it gave you — the warm days, the difficult ones, all of it. Then set it down gently.

June is on the other side of tonight. You’ll be ready.

Let the month be complete. Thank it, set it down gently, and rest well.

What’s one word you’d give May?
