The Saturday With No Plan
Here’s a radical Saturday proposal for the middle of July: have no plan.
Not a lazy day, exactly — though that’s allowed too. I mean a genuinely open day. One where you wake up without a list, see what the day wants to be, and follow it. Maybe that leads to a long walk. Maybe it leads to a project you suddenly feel like starting. Maybe it leads to a nap and a book and absolutely nothing of note.
We’re so trained to optimize our weekends, to make them count, that we’ve half-forgotten how to let a day simply unfold. But some of the best days I can remember had no agenda at all. They just happened, and I was paying attention when they did.
Maple is an expert at this. She wakes up with one plan — see what happens — and somehow always has a good day. Take a page from the dog today.
Some of the best days have no agenda. They just happen, and you’re there for it.
When was the last time you let a day unfold with no plan at all?
