The First Saturday of Summer
I know summer officially starts on the solstice, but the first Saturday of Memorial Day weekend is when it actually starts in the heart. The shift is real. The light is long. The air is warm in a way that doesn’t feel like a surprise anymore — it feels like a promise being kept.
Maple is handling this development well. She has found a sunny patch on the back porch that she considers her personal property and she is defending it aggressively from the shadow. I respect her commitment.
Today’s Saturday mission, if you want one: do something that summer-izes you. Eat outside. Buy flowers. Put on the playlist you only play when it’s warm. Open every window. Wear something that has no sleeves. Let the season actually land on you instead of just watching it happen outside your window.
Summer is here. Let yourself be in it.
